Riot Police Mace/Pepper Spray "Water Protectors" Near Standing Rock

On Wed. Nov. 2 "water protectors" from the encampments at Standing Rock attempted to cross a creek onto public land near the Dakota Access Pipeline. They hoped to halt nearby construction on an area with sacred burial grounds. The riot "Police" that stand on the other side of the improvised bridge have no badges, names or identification. The armed men are standing on Federal land that is open to public access. The Morton County Sheriff jurisdiction does not extend onto this land. Sheriffs stood on a ridge 100 yards away on land controlled by Dakota Access Pipeline. The sheriffs watched as these "police" repeatedly maced/pepper sprayed and hit non-violent "water protectors." Who are these people with the clubs and mace and what police force they represent is not clear. Photo by Leatha Liberty
