Standing Rock Opponents of Dakota Access Pipeline Try New Tactic
Efforts to halt the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) have met with large scale, militarized police operations designed to protect pipeline construction. North Dakota police and their out of state reinforcements have used mace, pepper spray, rubber bullets, and armored vehicles against the unarmed, generally peaceful opposition. Trespassing charges in local courts have regularly become felonies. On Nov. 7 the International Indigenous Youth Council tried a new tactic to make their voice heard while avoiding the cycle of violent police response.
