Negotiations continue at the Oceti Sakowin Camp
A mandate has been set by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the state of North Dakota that the have Oceti Sakowin Camp must be closed by February 22, 2017. In the run-up to that date, people from camp requested the Army Corps and the Governor of North Dakota meet with them each morning to negotiate how to best clean up the camp and present issues on which they disagree.
The following is the meeting from February 18, 2017 in which Phyllis Young, Johnnie Aseron and other community members met with Major French Pope of the Army Corps of Engineers and Levi Bachmeier, Policy Advisor at the North Dakota Office of the Governor. The morning negotiations continued through Tuesday, February 21, 2017.
